Around
fifty years ago, due to the proliferation of office
type buildings, a need for a hard wearing, long
lasting, low maintenance flooring arose.

Two companies
rose to the challenge, and it’s these two names who
are still associated with producing the leading brands
of carpet tiles today.

Looking
at the design requirements from a totally fresh point
of view, and utilising the chemical and engineering knowledge
of the day, Heuga and Interface produced tiles where the
fibres were embedded into a moulded backing
|

Before
this innovation, the first attempts at producing tiled
carpet floors had stemmed from the use of carpets cut
into squares.This had led to shrinking, stretching and
other abnormalities. Over
the last fifty years the carpet tile industry has refined
it’s product to a durable and attractive alternative
floorcovering.
